Ladies, if you’ve been noticing unwanted hair growth due to menopause or polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), you’re not alone. Hormonal changes can trigger stubborn hair growth on the chin, upper lip, or other areas — and constant plucking or shaving can make things worse, leading to dark spots, irritation, and hyperpigmentation.
At Sol Direct Primary Care, we offer laser hair removal treatments designed with your skin in mind. Our advanced technology targets the hair follicle at its root, helping to reduce and permanently remove unwanted hair while also improving skin tone and texture.
Don’t Get Burned – Literally or Figuratively. For years, laser hair removal wasn’t safe for Black women. Older laser technologies could burn or damage melanated skin, leaving many of us without real options.
Now, with the Soprano Platinum’s 3D laser technology, we can safely and effectively treat a wide range of skin tones and hair types — including richly pigmented skin — without fear of burns or discoloration.
At Sol Direct Primary Care, we understand the science behind your skin. Trust your laser treatments to the sacred space for Black women’s health and wellness.

To get the best results from your treatment, please follow these simple guidelines:
The number of sessions required varies from person to person, depending on factors like hair type, skin type, and the treatment area. On average, most clients need at least 6 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart to achieve optimal results. Our team will provide a personalized treatment plan during your initial consultation.
Our advanced technology includes cooling mechanisms to enhance comfort and make for a great treatment experience with minimal discomfort. If your skin is sensitive, you may experience mild discomfort with a sensation similar to the snap of a rubber band against the skin.
Yes, there are a few pre-treatment guidelines to follow. Avoid direct sun exposure for at least two weeks before your session. Refrain from plucking or waxing the area for at least four weeks prior, as the hair follicle needs to be intact for the laser to be effective. Shaving the day before or the day of the treatment is usually recommended. Additionally, avoid using any retinol for 3 days prior to treatment on the area.
Shaving before your laser session helps the treatment work safely and effectively. The laser targets the hair follicle beneath the skin by traveling down the hair shaft.
If you pluck or wax, the hair shaft is removed — meaning there’s nothing for the laser to follow to reach the follicle. Without that connection, the treatment can’t properly disable hair growth.
Thank you for asking! We know it can be tempting to reach for the wax between treatments, but we don’t recommend waxing or tweezing while you’re undergoing laser hair removal.
Here’s why: laser hair removal works by targeting the hair follicle beneath the skin. When you wax, you remove that follicle completely, leaving the laser with nothing to target — which means your treatments may not be as effective. Allowing the hair to grow naturally between sessions ensures that the laser can do its job properly.
Over time, you’ll notice that with each session, your hair grows back slower, finer, and in smaller amounts, making the wait between appointments much easier. If you’d like to stay smooth between treatments, shaving is perfectly safe or you may use Nair or other depilatory creams and won’t interfere with your results.
Laser treatment should not be performed if any of the following are present:
Active infection in the treatment area (e.g., bacterial, viral, or fungal)
Open wounds, sores, or unhealed lesions in the area
Active herpes simplex outbreak in the treatment area
History of keloid scarring or hypertrophic scars (use extreme caution)
Photosensitive disorders, such as lupus or porphyria
Recent tanning (natural sun or tanning beds within the past 2 weeks)
Use of photosensitizing medications (e.g., isotretinoin/Accutane within past 6–12 months, tetracyclines, certain antibiotics, sulfa drugs)
Pregnancy (most clinics defer treatment until after pregnancy)
Recent waxing, plucking, or epilation in the area within the past 2 weeks (hair shaft must be intact)
Active cancer in the treatment area
Immediately After Treatment
It’s normal to experience mild warmth, redness, or slight swelling in the treated area for a few hours up to 24 hours. Your skin may feel like it has a mild sunburn.
How to Soothe the Skin
Apply a cool compress or ice pack wrapped in a soft cloth for short intervals.
Use soothing products such as aloe vera gel or fragrance-free moisturizers to calm the area.
Avoid picking, scratching, or applying heavy makeup on the treated area for 24 hours.
Avoid for 24–48 Hours
Hot showers, saunas, or steam rooms
Direct sun exposure or tanning beds
Intense workouts or sweating
Harsh exfoliants or retinoid-based products
Sun Protection
Always apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ on treated areas, especially if exposed to sunlight. Protecting your skin helps prevent irritation and discoloration.
